Dingers upset Chameleons 19-12

In a surprising upset, the Dingers defeated the Chameleons on a beautiful Saturday morning at Tempe South Little League. With the loss, the Chameleons (2-1) suffered their first defeat of the season.

After the first inning the score was knotted 2-2 however the second and third innings were a different story. The Dingers recorded 5 outs in both the second and third innings to take a commanding 12-5 lead on the Chameleons. The Chameleons fought back throughout the contest but could never quite put together a big inning of outs with their highest tally of 3 outs coming in the 4th inning.

The Chameleons did showcase their depth at the plate with seven players hitting homeruns. The highlight of the day came in the first inning when Ted and Jace hit towering back to back home runs deep into the outfield. Ellie, Kainan, Gia, Zen, and Hudson joined Ted and Jace with round trippers of their own. Olivia had a nice day at the plate smacking two balls deep up the middle. If it wasn't for a nice play by a Dinger outfielder, Olivia would have likely had a homerun of her own.

In the field Ellie had the highlights of the day diving for a ball at second base and completing the force out. In the 4th inning while playing first she completed the only double play of the day. In the first inning Kainan made a nice force out at first base. In the second inning, Harper (2b) made a great stop and completed the play firing the ball to Ben at first base. In the third inning while playing first base, Hudson completed 3 outs. Gia made a nice force out in the sixth inning.

The player of the day honors go to Hudson. Not satisfied after last Saturday's performance, Hudson spent last Saturday afternoon working on his swing and approach at the plate. His Dad threw him 200 balls during the afternoon and is subsequently visiting a sports medicine doctor this week to have his shoulder checked out! It's evident Hudson's hard work paid off as he had several nice hits today including his first home run of the season. Hudson is a great example of how hard work pays off.

While the Chameleons are frustrated with the loss they can all hold their heads high. They played hard, played as a team, and were gracious in defeat. No doubt the Chameleons have circled their next meeting with the Dingers on the schedule, April 25th.

The Chameleons (2-1) are back in action this Monday 4/4 against the Sand Sharks. Game time is 5:30pm on TSC 3.
