In the bottom of the sixth inning, with the bases loaded, a Dinger player hit a lazy pop up towards Ben (P). Ben raced towards the ball but just as his outstretched glove went to make the catch, the ball landed in the ball bucket. A fitting end to a frustrating night for the normally sure handed Chameleons, the Dingers won the game 17-11.
After the game coach Mike was overheard telling a parent, ”Sometimes a team will come out flat and it’s my job as a manager to find a way to inject some energy into the players. I didn’t do that tonight and this loss falls solely on me.”
While it was a frustrating night for the Chameleons, there were still plenty of highlights.
Ted and Victor both hit homeruns and Jace launched a deep triple to the opposite field. Hudson continued to showcase his skills at the plate and Harper raised her astronomical on base percentage even more, getting on base safely every time. Kainan continues to swing a hot bat and if not for a great defensive play by a Dinger outfielder, he surely would have had another homerun. Samuel launched several balls into the outfield and similar to Kainan’s fate, would likely had a homerun of his own if not for the great defensive play of the Dinger outfielders.
In the field, the normally sure handed Chameleons made some uncharacteristic mistakes. Still, there were some great plays in the field. The highlight of the night came in the 5th inning when Kainan (1b) made a nice double play. Ellie (2b) made a nice grab in the first inning. Samuel earned player of the night honors for his consistent batting performance that he has been working hard on.
This loss stings if you’re a Chameleon fan, but it’s assuring knowing there are some strong Chameleon arms eager to showcase what they can do on the mound come playoff time.
