Shorthanded Chameleons take down Sandsharks, 22-10.

With several key players out, the Chameleons were forced to take on the Sandsharks with only 9 players tonight. With one less player in the outfield, this brought concern to the coaching staff on whether the players would be able to cover the large gaps in the outfield.

The shorthanded Chameleons were quickly exposed in the top of the first inning as a Sandshark player ripped a ball to right center field and easily rounded the bases for a home run. That ended up being really the only highlight of the night for the Sandsharks as the Chameleons quickly showcased the leather in the top of the first with 3 outs including a nice snag by Kainan at pitcher and a nice flippy force out from Gia SS to Ellie 2b.

In the bottom of the first inning the Smash Sisters, Gia and Olivia, provided the highlights as they both went deep with round trippers. Gia with a towering shot to left field that was measured as the furthest ball hit in AAA this season. Gia was seen sporting the home run chain in the dugout for only a couple minutes as 2 batters later her little sister Olivia roped a ball deep down the left field line for a home run of her own, and securing the chain from her older sister.

In the second inning the Chameleon defense showed the fans what they’ve been working on in practice, understanding where to go with the ball in any given situation. For the first time this season, we saw a 1-2 force out nicely executed by Olivia (P) and Ellie (C). In the bottom of the second inning Ted ripped another round tripper adding another to his season total. Much like the first inning, Olivia ripped another home run and earned the right to stake her claim to the home run chain, making Ted feel like he was only trying it on for a few moments.

After a hard collision in the top of the second inning, Victor bounced back and came to the plate in the bottom of the third inning and smacked a home run.

In the fourth inning the Chameleons really took control of the contest as they posted 6 outs in the inning. The highlight of the inning came on a one hop scoop that Ted made while playing first base to easily put away one of the Sandsharks best hitters. Ellie made a couple nice outs while playing pitcher.

In the fifth inning Victor made a couple nice outs while playing second base. He demonstrated good fielding technique and showed patience as he waited for Ellie to get back to first base before tossing her the ball for the force out. In the bottom of the fifth inning Ben showed off his patience at the plate as he roped a ball deep up the middle into center field for a great base hit.

In the sixth inning the Chameleon defense was at it again as they recorded 5 outs to bring their game total to 22. The highlight of the inning came when Ted (SS) made a leaping grab over his shoulder to yet again, frustrate the Sandshark batters with his gold glove play. During the inning Harper (P) made an excellent out as she quickly raced to field a ground ball and fired a strike to first base. In the bottom of the sixth inning Hudson showed off his power as he ripped a ball deep into right field. With so many great individual performances, it was a tight race for player of the game honors tonight. With his gold glove performance in the field and home run at the plate, Ted took home the player of the game honors and showed why he is an early favorite in the AAA MVP race.

While the Chameleons will enjoy this win the players understand there is still a long road ahead and there is always something they can work on to get better individually and as a team. When asked after the game about this, player of the game Ted stated, “No matter how good you are, you can always get better.”

Amen to that Ted.

The Chameleons will get back after it on the practice field this Wednesday at 5:30pm in the TSC4 cages and Saturday 10:00am on TSC3 as they prepare to take on the Sharks next Monday night.
